Can you hide your Polymarket profile?
A Polymarket profile is a public page that cannot be hidden. Every Polymarket account has a profile that shows the username, the wallet address, the open and closed positions and the results, and anyone can open the profile without logging in. According to Polymarket’s documentation, profile, position and activity lookups work for any wallet address, and no private mode or hide-positions setting is described.
What does changing a Polymarket username do?
Changing a Polymarket username is a change of label and nothing else. The wallet address stays the same, every past position stays attached to that address, and anyone who saved the address keeps following it under the new name. The Polymarket leaderboard, third-party trackers and, according to Polymarket’s documentation, the public profile lookup all work by wallet address rather than by username, so a renamed account is the same account to every tool that reads Polymarket data. Deleting the history is not available either: closed positions stay on the profile, and the blockchain record behind them is permanent. In short, the profile settings offer no privacy; the only choice a trader has is where new positions are placed.
What does a public Polymarket profile give away?
A public Polymarket profile is a complete picture of a trader. The profile gives away four things. First, open positions and their size, which reveal current views and conviction. Second, closed positions and their results, which reveal the track record. Third, the time of every trade, which reveals how the trader reacts to news. Fourth, total profit and loss, which decides whether strangers find the account worth following. Together these fields describe a person well enough that one clue, such as a username that matches a social handle or a transfer from an account in a real name, connects the whole profile to that person. From that point the profile is read as a record about someone, not about an address.
How do you keep positions off a public profile?
OffMarket is a web app for trading Polymarket markets with positions that are not publicly linked to the trader’s account. OffMarket uses the same Polymarket markets, the same order book and the same odds, so a share that costs 72 cents on Polymarket costs 72 cents on OffMarket and pays the same one dollar on a win. The only change is the public record: a wallet tracker, a leaderboard or a profile search pointed at an OffMarket account finds no positions to report. Getting started takes three steps.
