Polymarket privacy, explained
Polymarket privacy is simple to describe: every Polymarket account is public by default. The account’s username, wallet address, open positions, closed positions, profit and loss, and full trade history can be viewed by anyone, with no login, for as long as the account exists. This guide explains what Polymarket publishes, who reads the data, and how OffMarket lets a trader use the same markets with positions that are not publicly linked to the account.
What is public on Polymarket?
Polymarket is public down to the individual trade. First, every account has a profile page that shows the username, the wallet address, every open position with its size and average price, every closed position with its result, the total profit and loss, and a trade-by-trade history back to the first trade. Second, the Polymarket leaderboard ranks accounts by profit and by volume over the day, the week and the month. Third, according to Polymarket’s documentation, public data endpoints return the positions and activity of any wallet address, and a public profile lookup works by address alone. Every Polymarket trade settles on a public blockchain, so the record is permanent: a new username changes the label, not the address or the history behind the address.
Who reads Polymarket data?
Polymarket data is read by four groups. First, wallet trackers and Telegram bots watch addresses around the clock and report every new position, usually within seconds. Second, analysts and journalists follow large or unusual positions, especially on political and news markets, and ask who placed them. Third, counterparties check who is on the other side of a market and how that account has traded before. Fourth, people who know a username, or who recognise a wallet address from a transfer, a screenshot or a social post, read the whole history of the account as a story about one person. None of these readers needs permission, and none can be blocked, because Polymarket publishes the data by design.
How can a trader use the same markets privately?
OffMarket is a web app for trading Polymarket markets with positions that are not publicly linked to the trader’s account. OffMarket uses the same Polymarket markets, the same order book and the same odds, so a share that costs 72 cents on Polymarket costs 72 cents on OffMarket and pays the same one dollar on a win. The only change is the public record: a wallet tracker, a leaderboard or a profile search pointed at an OffMarket account finds no positions to report. Getting started takes three steps.
